President-elect Donald Trump is naming a former professional wrestling mogul to his cabinet.
Linda McMahon, the 68-year-old former CEO of WWE, has been tapped to head up the Small Business Administration. McMahon unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate in 2009 and 2010. She also founded Women’s Leadership Live, a startup aimed at boosting opportunities for women in the business world.
The decision comes just a week after Trump met with McMahon to discuss job creation. According to Trump, McMahon is a “champion for small businesses.”
“Linda has a tremendous background and is widely recognized as one of the country’s top female executives advising businesses around the globe,” Trump said in a statement. “She helped grow WWE from a modest 13-person operation to a publicly traded global enterprise with more than 800 employees in offices worldwide.”
McMahon was congratulated on Twitter by her husband Vince McMahon, current WWE CEO; her daughter Stephanie McMahon, WWE’s chief brand officer; her son Shane McMahon, a businesman and part-time professional wrestler; and some in the political and business worlds. Her appointment was also critiqued by others.
See those Tweets, as well as video of one of McMahon’s performances in the ring, below.
